General Shinsecki resigned May 29 as head of the Veterans Administration. President Obama accepted the general’s resignation, but I think the President asked for it because mid-term elections are approaching, and even some Democrats asked for the resignation. Cowards! But let there be no mistake—this was down and dirty politics at its worst. Obama betrayed a hero.
General Shinsecki served honorably in the Army and left half of a foot on the battlefield in Vietnam. He got a waiver to stay in the Army because he wanted to continue to serve his country. So all of a sudden problems were discovered at the VA? Bull crap! Republicans saw a way to get at Obama, and they pandered to the public’s irrational so-called love of veterans to get at the President. How about their love for Vietnam veterans?
Some veterans, who can act with a mob mentality, complained about the service at the VA. All veterans are not created equal, and some are complainers, fakers, and cry-babies. The head of one of the major veterans’ organization called for Shinsecki’s resignation piling on to feel important since he had no real facts. His background is in construction in Virginia, and he was a captain at Fort Benning during the Vietnam War. Wow! Shinsecki was a combat infantry commander IN Vietnam.
The VA is one of the gigantic bureaucracies which the Republicans refused to properly fund allegedly to keep the deficit down, and then they were the ones who complained the loudest about the ”inadequate” care from the VA. The Republicans were the ones who sent troops to Iraq without the proper body armor, without up-armored vehicles, and for reasons based on lies. Now, the Republicans act concerned about alleged lies in record keeping at the VA.
General Shinsecki is the one who stood up and said that the invasion of Iraq would require more men to occupy it after “Shock and Awe”. The Neo-cons lied about how it wasn’t necessary for the additional troops and that Iraqi oil would pay for the war—lies, lies, lies. Shinsecki was forced to resign from the Army shortly after speaking out.
Now, the Republicans finally got him, again—as though the VA problems started with and because of him. This is outrageous.
But the Democrats are not worth a damn either. The Democrats defended Obama-care; they defended “gun-grabbing”, they defended Hillary regarding Benghazi; they defended other pet liberal causes—but they could not, and would not, defend a general officer who was a true war hero, a true patriot, a true public servant, and who was given the daunting mission to magically and immediately cure the ills of the VA health care system. He was working on it without Congressional support.
Regarding the Republicans who suddenly acted like they cared for veterans, and the Democrats who cowardly and cravenly sacrificed a great public servant—a pox on both their houses.
